</span><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: medium; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">The first mistake beginners make when starting out on their houseplants journey is to seek immediate gratification. We can’t all be stay-at-home plant-parents. If you dive straight in and buy 10 to 20 plants, you won’t have the time to adjust to caring for them.</span></p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: medium; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Remember that tending to plants is meant to be a calming and relaxing hobby that gives you the opportunity to practice mindfulness and be at one with nature. Why invite stress into your life by biting off more than you can chew?</span></p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: medium; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">I had no idea in the beginning that I would have to spend the better part of two hours every weekend tending to my enormous urban jungle. It wasn’t something I was used to, and so I quickly came to resent it. When many of my plants died off, it was actually a relief to start again at a more realistic pace. I now have over 50 plants and I thoroughly enjoy the time I spend with them because I am finally a seasoned crazy plant lady and not a nutty newby.</span></p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">I suggest starting off with just one, two, or even three plants. You can always buy more later when you are a confident plant parent and know what you really want. For me, a lot of the pleasure comes from adding to my plant collection over time. Who wouldn’t love the thrill of going plant-shopping over and over again?</span> It is also lovely to be able to enjoy plants that are developing at different stages.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: medium; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Buying plants over time means that I now have many mature plants, juveniles, and babies to enjoy. </span><span style="font-family: Arial; white-space: pre-wrap;">You will gain so much more satisfaction from growing your own knowledge and experience alongside your growing plants. There are ways to trick your mind into thinking that you have achieved a ready-made jungle without having to spend all of your money at once.</span></p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: medium; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">If you go for a large established plant it will fill up space in your home straight away. A big leafy plant will create an instant impact, totally transforming a room. You may even decide that no more plants are needed because you love the vibe already.</span></p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: medium; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Don’t forget that the bigger and more mature a plant is, the more expensive it will be. It will also be all the more devastating if it dies, so choose your first plants carefully. It would be a shame to spend a small fortune on a big established houseplant only to watch it wither away because you couldn’t provide it with what it needs.</span></p><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: medium; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">If you want to purchase some large plants to start you off but the prices are making your eyes water, I have a clever solution for you in the tip below.</span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"><br /></span></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs3UUfdEZLbQqlXmzjYpTJaPRl-rweQmkcATwpoHRhQYp0mlup1eM-2I_m5RdnzIf4TaiC54v-DwQXxbyNmqcvPNaRkn635Z7PUcw0Tmj_n65eiuycF4X0CLHEtBq9v0FvXkdcknglfk5YvxzqPDku1iCjKvZ-y1U3RBRzdqJwjJPcMHb4VeQoepDC/s794/il_794xn.2973232822_nsiq.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="794" data-original-width="794" height="613" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs3UUfdEZLbQqlXmzjYpTJaPRl-rweQmkcATwpoHRhQYp0mlup1eM-2I_m5RdnzIf4TaiC54v-DwQXxbyNmqcvPNaRkn635Z7PUcw0Tmj_n65eiuycF4X0CLHEtBq9v0FvXkdcknglfk5YvxzqPDku1iCjKvZ-y1U3RBRzdqJwjJPcMHb4VeQoepDC/w613-h613/il_794xn.2973232822_nsiq.jpg" width="613" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://href.li/?https://tidd.ly/3u3SMxG" rel="noreferrer noopener noreferrer" style="background-color: white; border: 0px; box-sizing: border-box; color: #f68060; font-family: Montserrat, sans-serif; font-size: 16.25px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: left; text-decoration-line: none; transition: all 0.2s ease-in-out 0s; vertical-align: baseline;" target="_blank">Find this plant stand and more on Etsy</a></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p></p><p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; margin-bottom: 0pt; margin-top: 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-weight: 700; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;"></span></p><blockquote><span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-weight: 700; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Tip: </span><span style="font-family: Arial; font-variant-east-asian: normal; font-variant-numeric: normal; vertical-align: baseline; white-space: pre-wrap;">Here is how to save money and build your living room jungle faster! The Houseplants Edit is my guilty pleasure - a whole blog dedicated to the healing power of houseplants.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">I thought it was about time I put some effort into growing my houseplants blog. If I can nurture and grow my houseplants, then I can certainly nurture and grow a blog that is all about my passion for plants. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">This blog aims to be a fun and inspiring resource for fellow plant lovers. I will share my researched discoveries and my own personal plant stories, both success stories and failures, so that we can all learn together and enjoy being on this journey of growth.</span></p><p><br /></p><h2 style="text-align: left;">How I Discovered Houseplants</h2><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">Like many people, my first attempts at rearing houseplants were pitiful, and they spanned over a number of years. I remember coming out of a horrible relationship and I needed a project to help me get through the days. I started a blog called The Breakup Project, and I attempted to distract myself from my heartache by waffling on about the various activities that were helping me to "move on" one day at a time.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">Amongst some of the random things I blogged about, I discovered cooking and plants. I was terrible at both, but I was also determined not to let that get in the way of my enthusiasm.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1hO7qQhdkuqcehFhZQkKG1wMeDrnTEbwUAeLA0zUHrco_8vFvApcD7TERKXv683flTwD3B6AnRqnUO1FqtBMALj6Ep5mToWcxoGzCm9wma5T2_qL34xi9LDN0eRgDCiw7_yEIzB0xTOQz8QfWrrieC-EhUYzi4_yCQx9h8zkH2w3-LwPAFEwPaJL_/s2145/20220502_162152.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2145" data-original-width="1391" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1hO7qQhdkuqcehFhZQkKG1wMeDrnTEbwUAeLA0zUHrco_8vFvApcD7TERKXv683flTwD3B6AnRqnUO1FqtBMALj6Ep5mToWcxoGzCm9wma5T2_qL34xi9LDN0eRgDCiw7_yEIzB0xTOQz8QfWrrieC-EhUYzi4_yCQx9h8zkH2w3-LwPAFEwPaJL_/w416-h640/20220502_162152.png" width="416" /></a></div><h2 style="text-align: left;">A Battered Basil Plant</h2><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">My first plant was a basil plant that I picked up at the supermarket. I tried to force it to live in my bedsit that barely had any light, when really I should have chopped it up and served it in a salad. It would have at least contributed successfully to my cooking project.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">My second attempt at rearing a houseplant wasn't great either. I was discovering that I had a tendency to force plants to stay alive, when they were desperate for the suffering to end. </span></div><div><br /></div><h2 style="text-align: left;">A Very Sad Weeping Willow</h2><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">This time I had a very large weeping willow. At first it was luscious, green, and flourishing with leaves. By the end of its life, it was just a stick with one or two completely dead dried up leaves still clinging on to the plant, even in death. It endured lots of under-watering, limited light, being moved from one home to another twice in removal vans, and several attempts from my cat to climb it.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">Third time lucky? Not really...</span></div><div><br /></div><h2 style="text-align: left;">The Fragile Orchid That Didn't Stand A Chance</h2><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">A few years later a friend bought me a beautiful orchid. It was so pretty! The delicate pink flowers brought me joy every single day. Until they dropped off and I was left with this odd-looking plant that had four thick leaves at the base and a stalk with no flowers. I had no idea whether I was supposed to chop the stalk off or leave it. So I chopped it off. I was terrified that this plant was going to die, just like the rest of my plants, so I over-loved it until the roots turned to mush.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">The thing is, I really missed that plant. So I did what I should have done from the start. I turned to Google. And that is where my adventures in plants truly began.</span></div><h2 style="text-align: left;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqsJpp9dWGefy5cfQAIONc825FLVy0SWFPL0DqMLcNLhvont4hxSWhj5scKhOfg1Gr5DbWTTDrLMqkJXlY1FXhXFx0Z6BJ8ZXMCYKbq5YqU0pmQRzch7F5aCwGzG8rpi0UcwBBvhpTyhkDMUr4oWTlfjGeQ50qzFRugr4uG9s2ROGuIAZsg6WGAtKJ/s2475/20220502_170424.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2154" data-original-width="2475" height="496" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqsJpp9dWGefy5cfQAIONc825FLVy0SWFPL0DqMLcNLhvont4hxSWhj5scKhOfg1Gr5DbWTTDrLMqkJXlY1FXhXFx0Z6BJ8ZXMCYKbq5YqU0pmQRzch7F5aCwGzG8rpi0UcwBBvhpTyhkDMUr4oWTlfjGeQ50qzFRugr4uG9s2ROGuIAZsg6WGAtKJ/w570-h496/20220502_170424.png" width="570" /></a></div>My Ever-Evolving Urban Jungle</h2><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">I discovered the exciting world of crazy plant lovers on Pinterest, Instagram, and YouTube. There were articles, blogs, videos, tutorials, houseplant tours... My urban jungle obsession was born, and I quickly acquired about 50 houseplants. Most of which also met their deaths in my care. The difference this time was that I was on a journey to discover everything I could in order to become the queen of my urban houseplant jungle.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">For every plant that died, I shed tears, and then promptly replaced it with something else. I now have a steady collection of around 50 houseplants that actually look like they are enjoying life. I have become familiar with the types of plants to avoid at all costs because they won't be able to survive the sporadic stretches of inevitable neglect that swing round with every depressive episode I experience. And so my little plant family and I get along quite well now. I keep them going, and they keep me going.</span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">I hope you have enjoyed hearing about where my passion for plants stemmed from. You can share your own story in the comments, I would love to hear it! </span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-size: medium;">Whether you are a complete beginner or are much more experienced than me, I am sure that you will enjoy reading my blog, so why not subscribe so that you never miss a post from me? </span></div><div><br /></div><br /><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><h2 style="text-align: left;"><br /></h2>Zara M.http://www.blogger.com/profile/06920122502855683774noreply@blogger.com
